Earning free nights with Hotels.com Rewards

The Hotels.com Rewards program offers one free night after you stay 10 nights at hotels booked through Hotels.com. You must book through Hotels.com in order for the nights to count.

Once you hit the 10 nights, the value of your free night is determined by the average rate of those 10 nights. For example, if you stay 5 nights at a hotel with a rate of $150 and another 5 nights at another hotel with a rate of $250, you’ll ultimately get a credit of $200 for that free night. This value does not include taxes, incidentals, room charges or other fees (like resort fees). This free night means you get 10% back on what you spend on Hotels.com.

If your free night stay costs more than your credit is worth (in the example above, this would be anything more than $200), you’ll need to pay whatever the difference is. If your free night stay costs less than your credit is worth (in the example above, this would be anything less than $200), you will not get to keep the leftover credit and you’ll forfeit the difference.

Any free nights you accrue will expire if you don’t have any activity in your Hotels.com account within a 12 month period. This means you must book a stay within 12 months of earning your free night, or else it will expire.

In terms of the best value, Hotels.com gives 10% back on what you spend with 10 stays booked through their website. That’s a phenomenal value and you won’t really see anything better in the industry.

Earning Hotels.com Rewards status

Hotels.com offers three levels of status — Basic Rewards, Silver, and Gold. The bottom level doesn’t have an official name, but we refer to it as Basic Rewards. Basic Rewards is given automatically to anyone who signs up for Hotels.com Rewards. The next level up is Silver, which you can earn when you book and stay 10 nights in a calendar year. The highest level is Gold, which is earned by booking and staying 30 nights in a calendar year.

Here’s a breakdown of the benefits by tier:

Hotels.com credit card partnerships

Hotels.com does not have its own credit card. Instead, it has partnered with Capital One to offer 10x miles per dollar spent booking on Hotels.com. Only Capital One Venture and VentureOne cardholders are eligible for this promotion. The one big technicality here is that cardholders MUST book through hotels.com/venture in order to get the miles credited to their account. At this time, Hotels.com does not offer any automatic status or other benefits to cardholders.

Overall summary of Hotels.com Rewards

Overall, Hotels.com Rewards is a great value! You can’t beat the 10% off hotel bookings with their book 10 nights, get 1 free night offer. The program is really simple but does offer some benefits and perks for those who obtain Silver and Gold status. These benefits for elite status don’t come close to Expedia Reward’s elite status benefits. Finally, Hotels.com does not offer its own credit card. However, if you have a Capital One Venture and VentureOne credit card, you’ll get 10x miles per dollar spent on Hotels.com. This is a nice additional benefit and a good way to earn more Capital One miles for cardholders.
